Do you want to deal with overwhelming credit card debt? Of course
not, who does? When it comes down to it, out of control debt is either a
mistake or forced upon us. The good news is, we can avoid it all
together. You don’t have to have debt, no one does! That’s not how these
little pieces of plastic are made to be used in the first place. They
are designed to be financial tools that allow you to pay for things in a
safer and easier way. However, they are not designed as a bottomless
spending pit. Using these tools improperly could lead to overwhelming
credit card debt. Here are a few tips to insure that doesn’t happen to
you:
Tip #1: Pay Very Close Attention To Your Balance: Having
a high balance means that you have high credit card debt. If you are
aware of your balance at all times, it may hinder you from making
purchases that you should not make. The reality is, credit card debt
builds so fast because most of those who use them don’t pay attention to
their balance. If you see your debts building fast, chances are, you
are going to make adjustments in your budget to accommodate higher
payments and avoid using your card for a while. But, if you don’t know
what your balance is, you will never know what hit you!
Tip #2: Never Spend More Than 50% Of Your Spending Limit: Your
credit card spending limit is the maximum amount of money that your
lender is willing to loan to you. It is not expected of you to spend the
entire limit. The reality is, most of those who use 50% or more are in
early stages of financial hardship. The best way to avoid the 50% mark
is to make a spending limit of your own. Simply calculate how much money
you spend using your debit card or cash each month. Divide the total by
10 and that is your monthly spending limit. This way you will never
spend too much for you to be able to pay back!
